Ephesians 1:9-10

All Things in Christ

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

Ephesians 1:9-10

The consummation of all things is in view here and I am sure a definition is in order: the consummation, a noun, is a theological term that means (1) Completion; end; perfection of a word, process or scheme. (2) The end or completion of the present system of things; the end of the world. 1

What this event looks like no one knows. So, whether it will be the end of the world is unsure. What we can safely say is that it will be the end or completion of the present system of things.

As the present system of things comes to an end, God gathers “all things” together in one. All things in heaven and in earth will be reconciled (this is the same event mentioned in Colossians 1:15-20) as the ages come to a close. This has been God’s will and purpose since the beginning (Isaiah 45:21-23).
