Colossians 1:15-20

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Colossians 1:15-20

All Things

The first part of this passage seems to be a resume of sorts. Christ created all things that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers – they were created by Him and for Him and through Him everything is held together. In all things He has the preeminence.

So, when we are told that God will reconcile all things unto Himself on the strength of the peace made through the blood of the cross of Christ, we can be assured He has the power and authority do it!

Six times in this short passage the phrase “all things” is mentioned: all things were created by Him (twice) and for Him, He existed before all things and all things are held together by Him. Now, the same “all things” listed in the beginning of the passage will be reconciled completely. The word “reconcile” is rendered from the Greek, apokatallasso: to change from one condition to another, so as to remove all enmity and leave no impediment to unity and peace.1

It seems clear to me that all things will be reconciled in the end.
