What is Universal Reconciliation and is it Biblical?

Universal Reconciliation is also known as Biblical Universalism or Christian Universalism. Well known and widely taught, it was referred to by the early church as the apokatástasis (a Greek word meaning restitution or restoration). The central or core belief is that, in the end (quite literally), having made peace through the blood of the cross of Christ, God will reconcile all things unto Himself (Colossians 1:20), He will gather together all things in Christ (Ephesians 1:9-10), and subdue all things under Christ so that God may be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28).

The work Jesus accomplished on the cross is far reaching.  He was lifted up and therefore will draw all humanity to Himself (John 12:32), He is the ransom paid for everyone and because of that God will have all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4-6). He is the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2) and therefore it is not His will and purpose that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19) and every knee shall bow at the name of Jesus and every tongue joyfully profess that He is Lord (Isaiah 45:23; Philippians 2:9-11). Every creature in heaven and earth will praise Him (Psalm 66:4; Revelation 5:13).

He will not cast off for ever (Lamentations 3:31-33) but will have mercy on all (Romans 11:32). God is the savior of all people, especially those who believe (1 Timothy 4:10).
